About a year ago, we wrote about the U.S. farmland market from the perspective of so-called non traditional investors (NTIs). This updated analysis comes at a time when there are serious headwinds impacting that market, including:
>> Trade/tariff concerns
>> Increasing economic angst in the U.S. and around the world
>> Political controversies that impact the labor force for key parts of U.S. agriculture
>> Increasing interest rates and a stock market that seems due for a correction
>> Large supplies of most grains as compared to demand
>> Cost pressures on many U.S. farmers
For this article, we have sought the opinions of a diverse mix of participants in U.S. agriculture to provide valuable various perspectives for our readers. As the saying goes, we are in “interesting times”. All of the following people have lived through several cycles in the business of agriculture (including for most of them—the 1980s), and we think that this is an especially valuable characteristic to have in order to gain a better understanding of where things stand now, and where they are headed.
