Poultry companies is eastern Ukraine have been plundered or have had to significantly cut production according to the Union of Poultry Breeders (UPB). Poultry farms belonging to one of the region’s largest poultry companies, Ukragroptaha located in Luhansk Oblast, are 80% destroyed and a second poultry producer, Miner Nova in Donetsk Oblast has had its entire poultry flock plundered. The region’s agribusinesses are encountering problems accessing supplies of water, electricity, and animal feed, and agribusinesses are also finding it difficult to sell what they can produce, as the people in the region are not receiving salaries or pensions as a result of the social breakdowns surrounding the political tensions. Despite these conditions, the UPB remains positive and forecasts that poultry production by volume in Ukraine will rise this year because of growth in MHP and Agromars, the country’s two largest agricultural holdings.
