After an extensive search for the right buyer, the Olsen family of Olsen Agricultural Enterprises, has sold its Willamette Valley, Oregon farmland and all related assets to Farmland LP through the investment firm’s second investment fund, Vital Farmland REIT, LLC for an undisclosed amount.
“… with Farmland LP we recognized that we found the right way for our family to transition our farmland”, says Roger Olsen, Managing member of Olsen Agricultural Enterprises, “The same team will operate the assets under the new ownership, and that will allow for continuity of our quality programs in our vineyards, orchards and throughout our farms.”
The Olsen family have been leaders in Willamette Valley agriculture for two generations, operating over 6,000 acres of both owned and leased land, producing blueberries, hazelnuts, peppermint, grass seed, while growing to become one of the state’s largest wine grape growers.
Founded in 2009, Farmland LP acquires large tracts of conventional farmland, and adds value through converting the land to organic production through the implementation of sustainable and organic production practices. The firm currently manages in excess of 13,500 acres in Oregon’s Willamette Valley and throughout the San Francisco Bay area.
“Today’s acquisition expands our capacity to serve the ever growing demand for locally grown organic food,” says Craig Wichner, Managing Partner at Farmland LP, “and reflects our long term commitment to Pacific Northwest agriculture.”
