China-based fertilizer producer Migao and Russia’s largest mineral fertilizer producer EuroChem have formed a joint venture to construct a fertilizer plant in China with the capacity to produce 60,000 tons of potassium nitrate and 200,000 tons of chloride-free NPK fertilizer per year. Production is scheduled to begin in 2014. EuroChem is one of the world’s largest fertilizer producers with revenues of $5.4 billion in 2012. It has operations in Russia and Belgium and is nearing being ranked within the top five fertilizer producers in the world. EuroChem is currently developing two potash projects in Russia that would produce 8 million tons of potash annually.
