Parmalat Set to Acquire Regional Italian Dairy Latterie Friulane

Parmalat announced that it has agreed to acquire the production, sales, and distribution operations of Italy’s Latterie Friulane which produces yogurt, mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, pasteurized and UHT milk, and Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) registered Montasio cheese for US$13.7 million. Parmalat plans to reverse Latterie Friulane’s downturn after the company reported revenue for 2014 of US$44.2 million – down 30% from 2013’s revenue of US$63.3 million. The acquisition of Latterie Friulane follows a string of global spending by Lactalis-owned Parmalat. In April 2014 Parmalat purchased Australia’s Harvey Fresh for US$94.2 million, followed by the purchase of the UHT milk and cheese business of Lacteos do Brasil for US$110 million in August 2014. Then in September 2014 Parmalat agreed to purchase 11 dairy plants from Brasil Foods for US$795 million, and in December 2014 it agreed to the purchase of Australia’s Longwarry Food Park dairy company for US$53.6 million.
