Little more than one month after Rabobank Australia appointed Peter Knoblanche as its new chief executive and MD for the Rabobank Australia and New Zealand Group, Rabobank New Zealand has named Daryl Johnson to the position of chief executive officer effective immediately.
Mr. Johnson will be assuming the role from Crawford Taylor, who has been serving in the capacity of interim chief executive in New Zealand since October 2015.
Until last year, Mr. Johnson was CEO Asia for National Australia Bank (NAB), heading up the bank’s activity across China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Prior to his tenure as CEO with the NAB, Mr. Johnson was Executive General Manager of Nabbusiness, leading the bank’s Commercial and SME Business Banking and Asset Finance division in Australia and as General Manager Corporate Banking.
“Daryl’s skills and extensive experience in business and retail banking across a number of countries ideally complement Rabobank’s very strong franchise in the New Zealand rural and food and agribusiness banking market,” said Rabobank New Zealand Chairman, John Palmer.
Prior to 2009 Johnson was with ANZ Bank in Australia for several years serving in a varieties of roles including Managing Director Business Banking, and in his early career, he worked in rural and regional banking in Wickepin and Katanning in Western Australia. He has also served as director of Eftpos New Zealand, and between his time with National Australia Bank and Rabobank, Mr. Johnson spent several months working in a pro bono capacity with Second Bite, an organization that facilitates access to fresh food to people in need across Australia.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Johnson said, “The opportunity to lead the world’s leading specialist agribusiness bank in one of the world’s leading agricultural countries is a great honour [sic],” he said.
Mr. Taylor will be returning to work with Rabobank Australia after serving nine months as interim CEO in New Zealand.
