Since 1998, Patricia Saputo has set up and currently manages her immediate family’s “Family Office” in her role as the Chief Financial Officer of Placements Italcan Inc., a diversified investment holding company. Her specialization is in the domain of investment holding companies, personal and corporate tax, and Estate/Succession planning which includes investment planning, will planning and life insurance planning. She has developed expertise in the area of managing wealth as it is distributed to future generations so they become responsible stewards of their own wealth. She has developed a “Family Wealth Program” at Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business (JMSB) that was launched in November 2015. It is a comprehensive program that develops both the soft and hard issues of dealing with wealth in a family environment. She has recently been asked to sit on the Advisory Board of Queens University that will be launching a similar program.
Most recently, Ms. Saputo has been nominated by her peers and was awarded the prestigious title of “Fellow” (FCPA, FCA) by the Order of Chartered Professional Accountants of Quebec in recognition of her distinguished contribution to the visibility of the profession.
From 1991 to 1998, she developed her expertise in accounting and taxation while employed by Deloitte, one of the world’s largest chartered accounting, management consulting and tax services firm.
Ms. Saputo currently sits on the Board of Governors of Concordia University Foundation (since 2005) and Concordia University Pension Plan (since 2008) as well as the McGill University Health Center Foundation (MUHC) board. On the Foundation she is a member of the Investment Committee and Chairs the Audit Committee. Ms. Saputo Chairs the Pension Plan as well as the investment sub-committee of the pension plan, whereby they actively review the investment strategy to ensure it is in line with the investment policy as well as review the risk assessment of the overall pension plan and review of the money managers. In the past, she sat on the Board of Directors of Saputo Inc. (1999-2016), she was a Governor of Concordia University for 7 years, a Governor of St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation for 4 years, and a Director of Eureka Lighting, a privately owned small-cap lighting company, for 2 years.
Ms. Saputo also Chairs the advisory committee to Westcourt Capital Corporation, an investment advisory firm that adopts an alternative approach to asset allocation and investment manager selection with the goal of providing best-in-class advice and recommendations resulting in enhanced risk-adjusted returns. She is also a member of the advisory committee for Imperial Capital Fund VI (a private equity firm) and Area One Farms (a private equity agriculture business). She has also been sitting on the Concordia University Foundation’s Joint Sustainable investment advisory committee for the past 4 years. In the past, she has sat on the steering committee for the Canadian Family Office Forum, an intense two day peer interaction and mutual learning in the Family Office space for 3 years. She also sat on the advisory committee for Tiger 21, a peer-to-peer learning network for high net worth investors for 3 years. She is currently a member of Tiger 21.
She also devoted her time to provide expert guidance in the areas of accounting and finance for the “Intrapreneurial Initiative” to help young family leaders establish themselves as entrepreneurs (Fall 2016).
In the past, Ms. Saputo had been very involved with the Quebec education sector at both the elementary and high school levels in a variety of positions from the Home & School Association, to the Governing Board to the school board, the Parents’ Committee and the English Parents’ Committee Association (EPCA).
She has also devoted her time to judging International case competitions for the Concordia University JMSB MBA International Case Competition and that of the JMSB Undergrad Case Competition where she sat on the advisory committee. She has also been involved in the Concordia University WIBC (Women in Business Club) by mentoring some MBA students.
Ms. Saputo enjoys dancing with her fiance, Angelo Caparelli, and she also enjoys reading and educating others. She is a life learner and believes that “Education is an incomplete one”! She is the proud mother of 3 boys, Francesco (1996), Lorenzo (1998) and Tommaso (2005).
