The Maschhoffs, LLC, the largest family-owned pork producer in the U.S. has announced an agreement to purchase St-Cloud-based GNP Co., formerly known as Gold N’ Plump. The deal which includes GNP Co., its subsidiaries in Wisconsin and Minnesota, three chicken processing plants, two hatcheries, and two feed mills is expected to close within 30 days. GNP was begun in 1926 and has grown to be the 18th largest chicken producer in the U.S. processing 100 million chickens per year, with annual sales of $400 million in 2013 – double what the company saw just a decade ago. Within the past two years GNP has spent $20 million to upgrade its facilities. The Maschhoffs, LLC partners with over 450 farmers across the Midwest to produce enough pork to feed 16 million people, owning 208,000 sows and market hog production across nine states. Each company will continue to operate separately. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
