Grupo BTG Pactual SA’s Asset Unit Raises $860 Million for New Timber Fund

Grupo BTG Pactual SA’s asset management unit has announced the closing of its new timberland fund known as BTG Pactual Brazil Timberland Fund I, with $860 million.

The fund will invest in timber, forestry, and related assets to the class across Brazil and throughout the wider Latin American region in answer to growing interest in such sector investments from investors, including both Brazilian and global institutional investors.

BTG Pactual Asset Management is the largest independent asset management operation in Brazil without a retail network, and its clients include global retail and investment investors including pension funds and insurance firms with diversified portfolios.

Formed in 2012, through the acquisition of TTG Brasil Investimentos Florestais, and later expanded after the acquisition of Regions Timberland Group (“RTG”) the following year, the Timberland Investment Group at BTG Pactual Asset Management manages in excess of $3 billion in timberland assets in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and South Africa.

“There are a number of compelling reasons to invest in Brazilian timberland,” Gerrity Lansing, Head of BTG Pactual’s Timberland Investment Group tells 4 Traders.com.  “In addition to a high degree of technological advancement, the asset class has not been a focus for many institutional investors, and the barriers to entry are high, particularly for managers without a Brazilian-based team and capital sources.”
