NativeSeed Group has acquired the assets of Sharp Brothers Seed Company, a long-standing specialist in native seed processing based in Healy, Kansas.
The acquisition expands NativeSeed Group’s operational reach and processing capacity across the Great Plains and the Western United States, integrating 74 years of seed conditioning expertise into its regional network.
Through the transaction, NativeSeed Group aims to enhance its seed cleaning infrastructure to serve landowners, state and federal agencies, farm co-ops, conservation districts, and environmental engineering firms.
Expanded Processing Capabilities Across the Great Plains
Sharp Brothers Seed Company has specialized in producing, cleaning, and conditioning warm-season grasses, wildflowers, and native plant varieties since its founding.
The integration of its Healy, Kansas facilities will provide NativeSeed Group with dedicated processing equipment and specialized operators trained in handling challenging native species.
The facilities focus on de-awning, debearding, and conditioning warm-season grasses—including big bluestem, little bluestem, switchgrass, Indiangrass, sideoats grama, and buffalo grass—to achieve high purity levels and consistent germination rates. By incorporating these specialized services, NativeSeed Group seeks to address increasing regional demand for high-quality native seeds used in agricultural conservation, habitat restoration, and land reclamation projects.
“Combining that expertise with our Star Seed team allows us to offer growers and conservation partners broader access to high-quality native seed and professional cleaning services across the Great Plains,” Charlie Bowman, CEO of NativeSeed Group, said in the press release.
Operational Integration and Market Reach
The acquisition integrates Sharp Brothers’ assets into NativeSeed Group’s existing platform of regional brands, which includes Star Seed. Native seed growers and conservation partners throughout the region will now have direct access to expanded seed cleaning and conditioning services through the combined network.
NativeSeed Group, backed by private equity firm Heartwood Partners, continues to build out a centralized network of native seed supply and environmental solution providers. Its product portfolio supports large-scale land restoration, erosion control, solar site revegetation, and agricultural conservation initiatives across the Western and Midwestern United States.
“The acquisition of the assets of Sharp Brothers Seed Company continues NativeSeed Group’s commitment to expanding regional seed processing capabilities,” Charlie Bowman said in the press release.
Strategic Outlook for Regional Conservation
By expanding its physical infrastructure in Kansas, NativeSeed Group strengthens its supply chain logistics for native plant materials. Industry demand for native seed conditioning has grown alongside federal conservation programs, infrastructure land-mitigation requirements, and commercial solar development across the Central Plains.
The addition of specialized cleaning assets aims to ensure that raw harvests from local growers can be efficiently processed and distributed to meet environmental standards.
