Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) has received approval from the Chinese government and is building a sweetener and soluble fiber ingredients manufacturing complex at the port of Tianjin in the north of China on the Yellow Sea. The facility, which will be ADM’s first wholly-owned ingredient processing facility in China, will produce sweeteners and soluble fiber to be added to a wide range of foods and beverages. The location at Tianjin is situated to position ADM to meet the growing demand for high-quality food ingredients across Asia, being near large urban demand centers, having ready access to feedstocks, and having proximity to both rail and water transportation. The sweetener facility is expected to be fully operational by early 2015 and the soluble fiber facility will be operational in the second half of 2015. ADM began operations in China with the acquisition of an animal feed premix plant in Dalian and has grown to become one of the top grain exporters to Asia.
