Biotech crop protection company, AgriMetis has closed a $7.3 million Series A round of fundraising, led by Syngenta Ventures, the venture capital arm of Syngenta, and Acidophil, a bio technology innovation development firm and co-founder of AgriMetis in 2014.
AgriMetis’ technology focuses on replicating bioactive molecules which plants, bacteria, and fungi release into the environment in order to defend themselves against specific biological threats such as pests. These ‘natural products’ are produced by plants in very small amounts in direct response to specific environmental conditions making them difficult and expensive to work with, however thanks to recent advances in chemistry and synthetic biology, AgriMetis aims to produce these molecules at commercial scale.
The company has conducted test on its technology through several commercially validated programs, and this round of fundraising will be used to support the advancement of its current line of crop protection agents toward its production goals.
