In order to secure feed for its milk producers, Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producer’s Union (Amul Dairy) is investing approximately US$24 million to establish a cattle feed plant with a capacity to manufacture 1,000 tons per day. With the addition of the new plant Amul Dairy is set to become Asia’s largest cattle feed manufacturer with a total capacity of over 2,000 tons per day. The plant will initially produce 700 tons of feed per day with production eventually increasing. Amul Dairy produces a range of dairy products including cheeses, paneer, and chocolates among others. The dairy procures 1.9 million liters of milk per day and is expected to reach a record turnover of between approximately US$503 million and US$520 million during the current fiscal year.
