As Russia strives to return to self-sufficiency in beef, it has been a significant importer of breeder cattle from Australia. However, a shipment of 32,000 Angus steers is bound for Russia in the first contract for feeder cattle and the largest ever single contract for live cattle from Southern Australia. The order was placed by Russia’s biggest meat producing and importing company, Miratorg and was filled with yearling steers from Southern Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales through Elders, Landmark, and Livestock Shipping Services which has organized the consignment. CEO of Angus Australia, Peter Parnell states that signs indicate that this order will not be a one-time order.
