Bunge Opens Terminals to Boost Brazil Exports

Bunge has invested $316 million into the completion of two grain and oilseed terminals, the Miritituba and the Barcarena, both in the northern Brazilian state of Pará.  Once the terminals are at full capacity, the company will have the ability to export a total of 35 million tons of grains and oilseeds from Brazil via its own and third party terminals.  For 2014, the new terminals will handle approximately 2.5 million tons comprised mostly of soy and will reach full capacity next year.  The new terminals will enable Bunge to re-route some grain away from the over-stressed southern ports in the country by taking advantage of a new highway being constructed that will connect the state of Mato Grosso to the Amazon River.  The Barcarena terminal is Bunge’s second biggest in Brazil after the Guaruja Grain Terminal at the port of Santos.  If demand determines the need, Barcarena’s terminal capacity could be doubled in size by 2018.
