The Cameroonian government is calling for a search for a private partner with which to re-launch the Ngaoundéré Dairy Complex in the north of the country. The dairy focuses on feed barley production and dairy processing with a processing capacity of up to 10,000 liters per day. The complex has been idle since 2000 after being operated from 1996-2000 by the private company Soglait which leased the facility. Re-starting operations at the dairy complex is a major part of the government’s plan to make Cameroon more self-sufficient through the development of its dairy sector. Domestic dairy production currently stands at 125,000 tons per year and demand is currently 200,000 tons per year with the shortage being filled by imports.
