Russian Firm to Build Huge Duck Plant

Donstar, LLC, a subsidiary of Russia-based Evrodon plans to build one of the country’s largest duck meat production complexes at a cost of US$230 million.  The fully integrated facility will handle the entire supply chain from producing the ducklings, to processing, to distribution.  Construction of the operation will begin at the end of 2014 near the capital in Moscow Oblast, and it is expected that the facility will reach its full capacity of 45,000 tons of duck meat by 2018.  Evrodon is currently one of the largest producers of turkey meat in Russia controlling approximately 33% of the national market.  According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, turkey and duck meat will be the most rapidly expanding segments of the country’s meat market in coming years.
