According to Statistics Canada net income of Canadian farmers increased 31.7% in 2012 to C$7.27 billion (US$6.9 billion) from C$5.52 billion the previous year on increases in grain and oilseed prices. Net income increased in seven Canadian provinces following gains of 56.3% in 2011 and 16.9% in 2010. Canada’s biggest crop – wheat, rose 19% in 2012 on the Chicago Board of Trade and canola traded in Winnipeg increased 13%. Wheat receipts (excluding durum) increased 18.4% and canola receipts increased 7.3% in 2012. Farm cash receipts, including proceeds from crops and livestock increased 9.2% in 2012 to C$54.2 billion after an 11% in 2011. And according to Statistics Canada, far operating expenses increased 6.7% to C$40.8 billion because of increased input costs concerning feed and fertilizer.
