In a move in line with its plan to position itself as a Canadian-based grain company, CWB (formerly Canadian Wheat Board) has acquired 10.02% of Prairie West Terminal, Ltd. (PWT). PWT is a Saskatchewan-based, farmer-owned grain handling facility. Including CWB’s wholly owned subsidiary Mission Terminal Inc.’s shares in PWT, CWB’s total interest in PWT equals 12.11%. The purchase of this interest in farmer-owned PWT fits well with CWB’s plan for farmer-ownership that would allow farmers to have an equity interest in CWB after privatization.
