According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (Gosstat) domestic pork production fell in 2012. Production of chilled pork fell 7.1% and production of frozen pork decreased 13.9%. At the same time pork imports to Ukraine have increased 2.4 times compared to 2011 – increasing by 207,700 tons with a total value of US$446.032 million. Favorable conditions for the importation of cheap pork have driven the change and as a result high quality Ukrainian pork is being exported. In 2012 pork exports grew 61.5% to 20,200 tons.
