Prof. Edmond Harty is CEO of Dairymaster, one of the leading dairy innovation and technology companies in the world. Innovation in agriculture is his passion in life and he has dedicated his career to making dairy farming more profitable, enjoyable and sustainable.
While completing his PhD in University College Dublin he developed a new method for the evaluation of milking units by measuring performance under flow conditions. This research has resulted in the test methods being adopted into the international standards for performance measurement of machine milking and Dairymaster leads the way in these performance measurements.
Prof. Harty’s concentration is always on future possibilities, scientifically developed and proven. The level of patent applications (over 90 so far) speaks to his commitment to innovation.
Dairymaster’s unique milking benefits and performance advantages have enabled the company to break into new markets worldwide. They milk each cow an average of one minute faster and typically deliver 5% more yield in scientific trials. The focus is not just on the livestock. The milking machine can talk to the operator through the entire process like a dairy sat nav. for the farmer.
He was the overall winner of Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and represented Ireland in the World Entrepreneur of the Year. Through his vision and direction Dairymaster have been awarded 14 Innovation Awards across the globe for their ground-breaking products including their cloud based MooMonitor+, their Swiftflo Revolver Goat Rotary milking parlour and their Swiftflo Commander.
He has a strong background in engineering and science, and is regarded as one of the world’s pioneers in agricultural technology. He has an impressive track record of combining leading research with successful commercialisation of the resulting intellectual property.
In the last few months, Prof. Harty has:
• been awarded its highest honour, the Parsons Medal by Irish Academy of Engineering
• been appointed as Adjunct Full Professor in the School of Biosystems and Food Engineering at University College Dublin (UCD) College of Engineering and Architecture
• received an Alumni Award for engineering and architecture from UCD. He was recognised by UCD for his creativity, ambition, determination and leadership which has helped make Dairymaster one of the most successful agritech businesses in the international arena.
When asked to explain the success of Dairymaster on an international level Prof.Harty says “I am fascinated how technology can have a major impact on the efficiency of dairy farming, how to do things better, easier, faster and more sustainable than ever before.
The Dairymaster philosophy is to be the best in the world at what we do.
