GAI News Editor, Michelle Marshall, sat down with Mark Barber and Tom Russo from Elders to discuss the recent announcement that Hancock Agriculture, the second largest producer of beef in Australia, and its joint venture partner S. Kidman and Co. have appointed Elders to market a portfolio of seven of its Northern Australia beef production assets.

Mark is a seasoned agribusiness executive with an extensive network in Australian agriculture, particularly in the corporate investment space. Most recently Mark was the Investment Director for a large Australia agricultural fund and asset manager. Prior to that, he was Manager Strategy and Special Projects at Hassad Australia and headed up a team developing an agribusiness investment strategy for a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund. He was the Agribusiness Practice Leader for ACIL Tasman and advised on some of the largest agribusiness transactions in Australia. He has also been a partner in a southern tableland farming business producing beef cattle, prime lambs and trading livestock. Currently a non-executive director at Water NSW and Treasurer of Agribusiness Australia, Mark is also a director of Remount horsemanship programs for current and former service men and women suffering from post-traumatic disorders.
Tom has previously been the Chief Executive of a specialist international law firm and practiced as a corporate lawyer with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, complex contractual projects, corporate governance and intellectual property.
Tom played a pivotal part in devising and implementing the turnaround strategy for Elders, including executing a number of large and complex divestment initiatives. Since assuming responsibility for the real estate product in 2016, Tom’s focus has been firmly on building the capability of the product team to deliver outstanding support to the real estate business to establish a foundation upon which to grow it. Tom has vastly improved the marketing, digital strategy and training capability in order to support the existing network and drive brand presence in all key markets.
