According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services there are approximately 4 million feral pigs the U.S. found in 40 states between California and New York. The increase in the number and range of the feral swine represents a growing threat to the U.S. pork industry as the feral swine destroy crops and spread diseases such as pseudorabies and brucellosis which have been eradicated from the U.S. commercial pork industry. Because of the swine’s adaptive and reproductive abilities, implemented control measures have largely proven ineffectual.
