Flour Milling Joint Venture by Cargill, ConAgra, CHS Again Delayed

 

Almost a year after Cargill, ConAgra, and CHS announced they were combining their North American flour milling operations into a single billion dollar joint venture called Ardent Mills, the date for the deal has been once again delayed.  In July 2013 the U.S. Justice Department announced it was investigating the deal that would create the industry’s biggest entity.  ConAgra stated in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on February 10th that the delay was because of ongoing regulatory review.  The deal is now expected to close during the second quarter of 2014 at which time the three companies will divest four flour milling facilities.
