Former Coca-Cola Sugar Buyer Robbins Eyes Agricultural Assets

Former managing director of global sweeteners for Coca-Cola, Jacob Robbins has established a new Singapore-based agribusiness, Emeterra, that will invest in agricultural processing assets in Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America, initially excluding Brazil.  The company will focus on trading and supplying both sugar and non-nutritive zero-calorie sugar alternatives excluding stevia, dairy, and juices other than orange juice, and will also invest in technologies to boost sustainable agricultural development.  Emeterra’s first venture will involve advancements in the rapid multiplication of sugar cane seedlings which is the second most costly input for sugarcane cultivation behind fertilizers.  The company’s first assets are expected to be active and in production within 18-24 months.
