Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) has announced it is moving its global headquarters to Chicago despite failing to secure up to $30 million in tax breaks from the state. The Illinois Senate and a House committee approved the deal earlier this month, however the Senate adjourned without voting on the measure. ADM has decided that the new technology center originally planned to be at the same site, and which would have brought 100 additional jobs to Chicago, will likely be established in another state to be decided by mid-2014. Chicago was seen as the best location as it provides ADM efficient access to global markets but will still allow the company to remain connected to U.S. farmers, customers, and operations. Decatur, Illinois will become the company’s North American headquarter and ADM plans to keep the 4,400 jobs in place at that site.
