JBS Launches $75 Million Expansion of Utah Beef Processing Plant

JBS USA has announced a $75 million investment into its beef processing plant located in Hyrum, Utah. The investment will enable the facility to increase production from its current 1,800 – 2,000 head of cattle per day to between 2,200 – 2,400 head per day. The expansion will include a fabrication building, a ground beef facility, and a distribution center. Although the U.S. beef industry has been facing supply constraint issues, JBS states that the addition of dairy and beef cattle to its cattle mix, along with a growing dairy industry in nearby Idaho will support consistent supply to the facility, placing the Hyrum plant in a unique position for expansion. The project at the plant, which exports approximately 20% of its production overseas to countries including Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and Mexico, has received all necessary regulatory approvals and should be completed in the spring of 2016.
