Grain farmers in Manitoba are harvesting exceptional yields of wheat and canola this year and facilities are having a difficult time finding adequate storage for it all. Some farmers are shipping grain earlier than planned to make room for more and some farmers are storing grain in their sheds. In one case at the Paterson terminal in Morris an enormous amount of grain is out and covered with a tarp because there is no sheltered place to store it. In Manitoba the average yield for spring wheat is approximately 48 bushels per acre and this year farmers are seeing yields of nearly double that at 80 bushels per acre. Additionally, farmers in Manitoba plated a record-breaking 1 million acres of soybeans yet to be harvested.
