One Thousand & One Voices Africa Fund I LP, which intends to deploy $300 million across sub-Saharan Africa, has announces its maiden agribusiness investment in South Africa. The investment is allocated to the privately owned processor and distributor of high quality raisins, RedSun Dried Fruit & Nuts Pty Ltd. RedSun, which is located in the Northern Cape region of South Africa, has been processing and exporting raisins for 17 years, in which time the company has grown to become one of the four largest processors in the country with a capacity of 7,225 tons per year, of which 95% is exported to European, North American, South American, and Asian markets. Average global consumption of raisins has climbed by 17% between 2008 and 2013 as popularity of dried fruits and nuts grows, and the fund’s investment will support RedSun to expand its global presence and market share in the sector. One Thousand & One Voices began operations last year and offers a different investment model than more traditional private equity, incorporating its Three Dimensional Capital™. The Relational Capital, Intellectual Capital, and Patient Financial Capital of investing leading families will be offered to the investee company through access to the investor family’s or company’s relationships and networks within their industry and region, and the benefit of the investor’s business insight and expertise.
