Poland’s Kospol Investing €57M In International Expansion

Poland-based meat processing group, Kospol, is planning to invest up to €57 million into the establishment of international meat processing plants, according to Global Meat News.

The first two plants to be developed will be located in Belarus and Russia near Moscow, according to Kospol founder and chief executive, Kazimierz Pazgan. A third plant, which is expected to increase the group’s presence in Asian markets, is being planned for Indonesia where Kospol has entered into a partnership with an unnamed local company.

Founded in 1982, Kospol is a family-run operation that specializes in poultry meat processing but produces a full range of meat products. Currently, approximately 30% of the group’s revenues are generated from export sales to its main markets in Europe. The remaining 70% of revenues are generated domestically in Poland where the company is one of the largest supplier of poultry to Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Additional expansionary projects on the table include the expansion and modernization of the group’s two facilities in Poland with the goal of doubling output within the next two years, and upgrading its slaughterhouse which is operated by its subsidiary, Kinspos Bis. The group is also considering the construction of a fourth processing facility in Qatar.

There has been notable investment and activity in Poland’s meat processing sector so far in 2016. In June, the Danish-owned pork processing company, Prime Foods finalized its €7.5 million investment for the construction of its new site in northern Poland which will double the company’s annual production capacity and extend its product line. Launched in 1999 and headquartered in Przechlewo, Poland, Primes Food is part of Denmark’s Polen Invest A/S Group, a subsidiary investment group of Ukraine Invest A/S, which operates in Poland’s food and agriculture sectors.
