Saudi Dairy Giant Almarai Buys Agricultural Land in U.S.

The Saudi dairy giant Almarai has bought 40 square kilometers of land near Vicksburg, Arizona in a deal worth US$47.5 million according to the kingdom’s news agency.  The purchase was made through Almarai’s wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary and will be funded by the company’s own financial sources.  Saudi Arabia recently announced that it will be eliminating domestic grain production in order to protect the country’s meager water supply.  Almarai intends to cultivate alfalfa on the land for export to the kingdom.
