Skye Macpherson has been named the new head of BlackRock’s €100 million World Agriculture Fund, reports Citywire. Ms. Macpherson, who has 15 year’s experience as a fund manager, joined BlackRock in September of last year from asset management firm, First State, as part of BlackRock’s initiative to strengthen its natural resources management team. She grew up in Western Australia with an interest in agriculture and graduated with a Bachelor in Agricultural Economics from New England University, Armidale, and received a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investments, specializing in Investment Analysis, from the Securities Institute of Australia.
Ms. Macpherson will be taking over the responsibilities handled by Desmond Cheung, who has stepped down in order to focus on his health. In addition to heading the group’s World Agriculture Fund, Ms. Macpherson will also be tasked with co-managing the group’s BGF Natural Resources Growth & Income Fund and its parallel UK-based fund, the BlackRock Natural Resources & Growth Income Fund alongside Tom Holl and Joshua Freedman.
This management restructure follows closely on the heels of Robin Batchelor stepping down from his role with two of BlackRock’s energy funds at the end of 2015 in pursuit of other opportunities.
