Southern Harvest Acquires 2,700 Hectares in Romania

February 19, 2016

Southern Harvest LP, a subsidiary of Anholt Investments, announced it has acquired 2,700 hectares of farmland in Romania through two separate transactions. Taken together, the added acreage effectively increases Southern Harvest’s Romanian farmland holdings by 45%.

The bulk of the farmland is currently being farmed organically, and Southern Harvest claims in a company statement that it will continue with organic agricultural production on the site, while considering plans to expand organic practices ‘where appropriate’.

“…we view our entry into organic farming as part of an ongoing effort to pursue a sustainable business model in partnership with the local community,” said Anholt Partner, Rudolph Krediet.

Anholt is an indirect subsidiary of the Kattegate Trust family office-based philanthropic foundation, which manages and evaluates Kattegate’s global interests across a range of assets classes.

Commenting on the Romania acquisition in a recent press release, Krediet added, “We are very pleased to be able to continue our long term development in Romania in such a significant way. It is a testament to our confidence in the ability of our management team on the ground to continue to identify, acquire, integrate, and improve new tracts, as well as our confidence in our large team of local employees who continue to rise to the challenge of creating a world class farming operation in Romania.”
