The Mosaic Company, a leading producer and marketer of phosphorus and potash has completed its acquisition of CF Industries’ phosphate business for $1.2 billion in cash plus an additional $200 million to fund the company’s asset retirement obligation escrow. The deal was financed through cash which Mosaic plans to partially replace with pre-payable intermediate term debt financing. The purchase includes a 25,000 acre phosphorus mine, phosphorus manufacturing facility, ammonia terminal, and finished product warehouse in the Tampa, Florida area. Total capacity of the acquired facilities is 1.8 million tons of phosphorus fertilizer per year bringing Mosaic’s total output to over 11 million tons solidifying Mosaic’s placement as a leading global phosphate producer.
