Precision agriculture business, Trimble, agreed to acquire the assets of privately-held Alberta, Canada-based, AGRI-TREND for an undisclosed amount.
The integration of AGRI-TREND’s largest network of independent agricultural consultants in North America, and its expertise in agronomy, grain marketing, and data management with Trimble’s background in precision agriculture will create a platform that has the ability to offer agronomists and crop advisors the strongest collection of brand-agnostic tools to be used to advise farmers on the management of their operations.
The acquisition of AGRI-TREND brings with it a network of over 200 specialists across the U.S. and Canada including 110 independent ‘coaches’ that specialize in precision farming, crop marketing, agronomy, and business management. These coaches are supported by a team of 30 PhD’s and M.Sc.’s that conduct in-house research, training, and insight for the coaches and AGRI-TREND’s AGRI-DATA Solution platform.
"Trimble's acquisition of AGRI-TREND is another step towards total farm management for the grower. Together with Connected Farm, we will provide growers and their trusted advisors with a combined offering that is unique in the marketplace today," said Joe Denniston, vice president for Trimble's Agriculture Division.
Having been in the field for over 17 years, AGRI-TREND plans to use the backing of Trimble to expand its reach to more farmers as precision agriculture gains a wider standing in the global agricultural production chain.
This acquistiion comes on the heals of Trimble's addition of several more third party apps to its Android™-based Trimble® TMX-2050™ display, designed to offer farmers more customized tools to address the operational and regional specific challenges of farming.
Trimble platform of precision agriculture solutions apply to all sizes of farming operations, all crops, terrains, and seasons, and its brand-agnostic approach allows farmers to use its technologies in almost any brand vehicle. Trimble’s product portfolio includes vehicle guidance and steering technologies, water management solutions including irrigation, drainage, and land leveling products. Additionally, the company offers unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for mapping and imaging, and application control systems for seed, liquid, and granular products, and a farm management software system.
