Ukraine Sees Big Jump in Poultry and Meat Exports

In the first ten months of 2013 Ukraine has reduced meat imports by nearly 24% and its meat exports increased by almost 60% year on year compared to the same time period in 2012.  The most significant increase in meat exports was seen in poultry exports which increased 80% compared to the same time period a year before because of the country beginning exporting poultry to the EU.  Exports of fresh and frozen beef also increased in the past ten months – on average b 40% as a result of the country reducing duties on the exports of live cattle from 25% to 5% early in 2013.  The largest markets for Ukrainian poultry for 2013 were the CIS countries, Iraq, Turkey, Georgia, Jordan, Libya, and the EU.  For beef the largest markets were Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Moldova.  For pork the largest market was Russia.  The country plans to now focus on increasing exports to the EU.
