An important large, new market is opening for Ukrainian agricultural companies. Ukraine’s largest poultry producers may begin selling chicken to the EU as early as November. The European Commission has formally allowed imports of Ukrainian poultry, eggs, and other products from Ukraine’s top agricultural companies such as London-listed MHP, Avangard, and Agromars after years of the companies attempting to initiate shipments. As a result of the opening of the EU market, MHP is considering buying a meat processing plant in the EU in the near future and Avangard and Ovostar could more than double their egg processing capacities. Estimates are that starting in 2014 Ukraine could be able to ship 40,000 tons of poultry to the EU annually.
