The U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) has forecast a corn crop of 13.989 billion bushels – an increase of 30% over 2012 and a 1% increase over the department’s September estimate. Average corn yields are expected to be 160.4 bushels per acre – 37 bushels per acre above 2012, 5.1 bushels above the previous forecast and the highest average yield since 2009. Soybean output is expected to be 3.26 billion bushels – an increase of 3% from the previous forecast in September, and 7% above last year. Soybean yields are expected to average 43 bushels per acre – an increase of 1.8 bushels per acre from the previous forecast and 3.2 bushels per acre higher than 2012. Both corn and soybean yields for Indiana, Illinois and Iowa are expected to be above the USDA’s September forecasts.
