A dairy in Perth, Australia may have created a way to address the country’s feral camel problem and make a profit. Australia has 750,000 feral camels across its desserts and Steve Geppert has been hired to turn these feral camels into milking animals for the business. Camel milk is a profitable sector with prices of approximately $20 per liter and according to the UN global demand for camel milk could skyrocket with a potential 200 million consumers representing a $10 billion industry. The dairy is the first of its kind in Australia and has started production with a pilot program milking only four camels producing approximately 450 liters each per month. Even before the dairy began producing it was receiving requests from international buyers for up to 7,000 liters of camel milk per month.
