What Will the Wine Trade Look Like in 2034?

Wine Intelligence surveyed 111 global wine experts about the wine industry over the next 20 years and issued the report The International Wine Industry: Global Expert’s Vision 2034.  The survey found that 29% of respondents stated that regulations posed the greatest future threat to wine trade, followed by the rival categories of hard ciders and craft beers.  Rival spirits have larger marketing budgets and can be more imaginative and innovative with their packaging as they do not have to be concerned with oxidation. More convenient and personal packaging are anticipated to be of greater importance with Supermarkets increasing their dominance in the market and producers focusing more on direct-to-consumer sales. Sparkling wines, low-alcohol and alcohol-free products, organic, and biodynamic wines are all expected to grow while 76% of respondents stated that they predicted fortified wines will decline.  The top five global markets seen to receive the most investment were the U.S. and Canada, China, India, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
