Bright Cellars, the personalized wine subscription service and graduate of Madison, Wisconsin-based gener8tor’s startup incubator program, has closed on a $2 million seed fund round of fundraising led by venture fund, CSA Partners.
Founded in Boston in 2014, Bright Cellars moved to Madison in 2015 to join gener8tor’s three month long incubator program. Subsequently, company founders Ricard Yau and Joseph Laurendi decided that Bright Cellars would have to best opportunity for growth from Wisconsin.
Much like music streaming services, Bright Cellars matches members with various wines based on an algorithm developed by its founders that is applied to a survey of a member’s tastes and preferences. Upon analysis, Bright Cellars ships a personalized monthly delivery of wines to their customers.
Bright Cellars is currently operating out of the Milwaukee start-up hub, Ward4, and the company reports that since graduating from gener8tor’s incubator, their revenues have doubled and membership has climbed to over 3,000.
“I think we can do for wine what craft beer has done for the beer industry,” said Richard Yau. “We can help wine drinkers discover and learn about the world of wine.”
