On August 2nd the World Trade Organization (WTO) upheld claims by the U.S. that China imposing anti-dumping and countervailing duties on broiler products from the U.S. violated numerous WTO obligations. More than $23 billion worth of agricultural products are exported to China annually from the U.S. but the prohibitive duties on broilers from the U.S. caused an 80% decrease on American exports of the poultry to China. After the favorable WTO ruling, the U.S. chicken industry should see the critical Chinese market restored.
