Africa’s Agriculture and Agribusiness Markets Set To Top US$1 Trillion in 2030

 

According to the World Bank’s report “Growing Africa: Unlocking the Potential of Agribusiness” Africa’s farmers and agribusinesses could create a trillion-dollar food market (from $313 billion today) if they can expand access to electricity, capital, better technology and irrigated land to grow high-value nutritious foods.  Africa has one half the world’s fertile yet unused land and uses only 2% of its renewable water resources.  Currently post-harvest losses are high because of lack of storage and infrastructure.  The World Bank report states that agriculture and agribusiness should be at the top of the development and business agenda in Sub-Saharan Africa.
