In early 2012 Zeder acquired control of Chayton Africa, through which it aimed to expand its investments in Zambia and other African countries. Chayton already has 4,100 hectares under irrigation and is the second largest grain producer in Zambia. Through Chayton, Zeder has acquired the Zambian, privately owned maize and wheat million company Mpongwe Milling for $27.5 million. The acquisition of Mpongwe will offer Chayton the opportunity to expand its product offering across the value chain and offers Zeder a well-established brand and the chance to expand into new markets.
