According to the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) 1,055 million tons of aquaculture resources were harvested in Chile in 2012. Broken down 804,000 tons of salmon were harvested, a 23% increase over 2011. Atlantic salmon’s harvest in 2012 was 398,000 tons – an increase of 50.6% over 2011, reaching a new record. 61% of the increase came from the Aysen region. After new disease monitoring and control measures were put in place, there were no outbreaks of ISA which is currently threatening the Canadian farmed salmon industry.
