Directly on the heels of the opening of its new $40 million port in Bunbury in West Australia, Bunge announced plans to build a $20 million grain export terminal near Geelong in Victoria. The new terminal will have the annual capacity to load 450,000 tons of wheat and barley onto bulk ships and will give the company tighter control over its wheat and barley supply chain in the country, lessening its dependence on ports owned by rival traders. The port will consist of a receival terminal, and three 8,000-ton storage bins to be built on wharves previously used by Midway Group to export woodchips.
