BASF is shifting its resources away from its nutritionally enhanced feed corn project in the U.S. toward work in fungal-resistant corn because of a more robust market potential and the inability to find a feed partner interested in the nutritionally enhanced corn. The company also announced it will no longer pursue regulatory approvals for genetically modified potato products in Europe because of “uncertainty in the regulatory environment and threats of field destruction.” Last year BASF moved its biotechnology division from Germany to the U.S. because of a lack of acceptance from consumers, farmers and politicians.
