Mosaic Biosciences and Elicit Plant, a French agtech firm, have announced a joint development agreement to create a field-validated solution for canola (oilseed rape) growers facing water-stress conditions across North America.

The collaboration leverages Elicit Plant’s proprietary EliTerra® platform and Mosaic Biosciences’ biological expertise to preserve crop yield potential amid shifting climate patterns.

Addressing Climate Challenges in North American Canola Production

Canola represents a vital economic pillar for North American agriculture. In Canada alone, growers plant nearly 22 million acres annually, yielding between 17 and 19 million metric tons depending on the season. Combined with significant acreage across the northern United States, canola stands as Canada’s most widely cultivated oilseed crop.

However, escalating weather volatility and prolonged dry spells place immense pressure on canola yields. Because crop water stress directly limits harvest potential, developing biological tools that optimize water efficiency has become a top priority for agricultural input leaders.
