Bayer CropScience Steps Up Investment Plans

Bayer CropScience is on track to see sales near €9 billion in 2013 and €10 billion in 2015.  With this strong demand for its products the company is adding €1 billion to its investment program bringing the capital expenditures for the period of 2013-2016 to €2.4 billion.  One major element of the investment plan is the construction of a new plant in Alabama for the production of the herbicide marketed in the U.S. under the brand name Liberty at a cost of €380 million.  Production should be begun for the 2016 growing season.  Bayer CropScience is also expanding its Seeds strategy; planning to strengthen its position in vegetables, rice, oilseed rape, and cotton as well as build market position in soybeans and wheat with the launch of its new soybean brand Credenz in late 2014 and a high-yielding wheat breeding network with first varieties to come to market in 2015.
