Over the past two years Lakeland Sands Florida, a subsidiary of Cascade Investments LLC, and the company which oversees Bill Gates’ wealth has been buying up Florida farmland. Most recently the company has acquired 4,500 acres in northern Florida for $28 million from agriculture and forestry company Seldom Rest Inc. which is based in Donalsonville, Georgia. Other agricultural properties acquired within the past two years include 400 acres of timber land from Oak Hammond LLC for $800,000 in September 2013, as well as Coggins Acres LLC, Coggins Farm Supply Inc., Circle C Produce Inc., Absaroka Holdings Inc., Hamilton Land Investments Corp., Hamilton Pine Trees LLC, Lake Clark Holdings LLC, and Lee Peanut Farms LLC.
